FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who are Physical Therapists?
Physical therapists, or PTs, are licensed health care professionals who evaluate and treat people with health problems resulting from injury or disease. PTs assess joint motion, muscle strength and endurance, function of heart and lungs, and performance of activities required in daily living, working, and other responsibilities. Physical therapists are professionally educated at the college or university level and are required to be licensed in the state in which they practice.
Am I eligible for physical therapy?
Anyone is eligible for physical therapy and can benefit from it. Physical therapy is typically covered by insurance. Please check with your insurance company for your benefits for "outpatient physical therapy". For the list of "Contracted Insurance Plans", click here. We also accept ALL other non-contracted PPO, private pay, motor vehicle accident, worker’s compensation, and Medicare Part B. If you need assistance on verification of benefits for a patient, please call our office and we will be happy to assist. Although this information is obtained from your insurance company, it is not a guarantee of coverage.
Do I get to choose my physical therapist?
Yes, just as you would choose your doctor, you can choose your physical therapist. At Dynamic Rehabilitation, all of our physical therapists are capable of treating you, however, if you prefer a specific therapist, please let it be known and we will do our best to accommodate you.
Do I need to set up an appointment?
Yes.
We see patients by appointment only.
If you have a script, or referral, from your doctor for physical therapy, please call us at (630) 907-9911 to schedule an appointment. If you do not have a referral but have a condition or pain that deserves attention, please call us and we can help you get started. In the state of Illinois, physical therapists may evaluate a patient, however, a written diagnosis from a physician is needed in order to treat a condition.
How long do treatments take?
Your initial visit, including the evaluation, should take approximately 1 hour. Subsequent visits usually take, in general, anywhere from 45 minutes to 1 hour.
What should I wear to physical therapy?
Please wear casual or comfortable clothing that you can do "light" exercise in. It is important that you wear loose-fitting clothing to enable the therapist to examine and treat the injured area. Please bring shorts if you have a lower extremity injury or a spine condition.
What types of treatments will I get at physical therapy?
Treatment is determined by your physical therapist with regards to your condition and doctor's prescription. All of our treatment sessions are individually tailored to each person and at each visit. You may receive instruction in core stabilization, joint mobilization, soft tissue mobilization, active release, myofascial release, therapeutic exercise, structured home exercise plans, and education. You may also receive modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, interferential stimulation, infrared light therapy, TENS, cold, and heat.
Will I be in pain after physical therapy?
Most patients feel better after therapy, however, with some conditions some discomfort may be felt. This discomfort is relatively short in time, and can be relieved with ice or rest. Any discomfort or concern can be discussed with your therapist by phone and should be discussed at your next visit with your physical therapist.
